Don’t Take Pictures is a photography magazine published in print twice-yearly (March, September), in addition to regular online articles. The title, Don’t Take Pictures, references the language of modern photography. Over the years, the term “taking pictures” has begun to be replaced with “making photographs.” The change signifies a distinction between the widespread use of cameras in the modern world and the more systematic, thoughtful process of creating photographic art. At Don’t Take Pictures, they strive to celebrate the creativity involved with the making of photographs.
This week’s Carmel Pine Cone features an article on my new “Print & Plant” project along with a short profile about my work.

This month I launched “Print & Plant,” my new project to combat climate change. Planting trees is something we can do NOW to offset the effects of our carbon footprint and mitigate global warming. With the purchase of any of my tree prints, I will make a donation to the National Forest Foundation’s “50 Million for our Forests” tree planting campaign. The year begins for me with a curated international exhibition in Spain. My image, “Jagged Edge” has been chosen for “The Art of Photography,” opening this week at Valid World Hall Gallery in Barcelona. Sponsored by PH21 Gallery, the exhibit can be viewed online at this link.
So fun that PH21 Gallery in Budapest posted a live video feed of today’s opening reception for the “Forward the Tradition” exhibition. Almost like being there. I’ve captured a few stills from the video that feature my two images. The facebook video is kind of fun to see, even if you don’t speak the language.

And the nominees in the categories of Nature and Fine Art Photography include… me! It’s such an honor to be recognized by the prestigious jurors of the annual Black & White Spider Awards for the third year in a row.
I’m especially pleased that my diptych “Tributaries” was nominated in the Nature category. The diptych format allowed me to capture the experience of water flowing in all directions from the Spring snow melt in Yosemite. See the other Nature nominees along with the prize winners here.
In the Fine Art category, “Backstage Moment” from my “Danseuse” series was nominated. All nominees and winners in Fine Art can be found here.
There is some incredible work by photographers from around the world in all 16 categories, as is the case year after year… Definitely worth checking out!
A Big Thank You to Laurie Freitag and juror Dulce Stein for selecting my images as “Best Series” for the online exhibition, “Trees.” As always with LA Photo Curator, a portion of the proceeds goes to charities. Click the link below to reach my exhibition page and view the other winners and entries.

“In Statu Nascendi” means “state of becoming.” With this theme, all aspects of the creative process come into play - from the act of creating the art, to sharing it and creating community. This exhibition was supported by the Local Government of Ferencváros District (Budapest Főváros IX. Kerület Ferencváros Önkormányzata).
