Reflections 2018
Welcome to "Reflections 2018," my online photo journal for sharing thoughts, "sketches," and works in progress. The images may be from a photography workshop, new ideas I am exploring, creative inspirations from books, movies, museums, music... or they may simply be captures of an extraordinary subject or moment that caught my eye in the course of the day. Volume 2: In an O'keeffe State of Mind

This month, while continuing to work with garden images, I became enthralled with the luminous natural forms of flowers close up... an exercise that took me to a state of mind where Georgia O'keeffe often found herself. I especially like the photos in black and white - they are like delicate drawings... and yet the color images are so seductive. Which do you prefer?

Gaia's Garden
The image below is a new addition to the Flora Gallery. The title refers to Gaia, the ancient Greek Goddess of the Earth. The Gaia Theory* proposes that the living and nonliving components of Earth function as a single system with the living components regulating conditions to maintain life on the planet.
*This theory was formulated in the 1970s by the chemist James Lovelock and co-developed by the microbiologist Lynn Margulis.
