November 26, 2017  Full Circle, the Creative Cycle

"Making art now means working in the face of uncertainty; it means living with doubt and contradiction, doing something no one much cares whether you do and for which there may be neither audience nor reward."

 - David Bayles & Ted Orland, "Art and Fear"

So when your efforts at self-expression do come full circle in some form of recognition or exhibit opportunity, there is a sense of completion or fulfillment of the creative cycle... the idea you brought into the world through your art touched another human being.  I'm grateful this Fall for a number of "full circle" opportunities, which I'm also pleased to share with you.

Center for Photographic Art

2017 International Juried Exhibition

My image "Transcendance: Reach" was selected for the Online Gallery.

Juror and curator of this thought-provoking exhibition was Philip Brookman, Consulting Curator in the Department of Photographs at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.

The Weston Collective

2017 Online Photography Competition

Awarded Honorable Mention for my image,  "The Grip".

The juried exhibition was a fundraiser for this wonderful organization that supports and nurtures young student photographers working with black and white film. I was happy to contribute and I'm honored to have my work recognized. View the results Online.

"Ripple #5"

I'm honored that two of my images are among the 1,034 nominees from an international field of 8,121 entries in the 2017 Black & White Spider Awards.

The Fine Art / Amateur Category includes 160 nominees.
