STATE OF VACANCY

“Outlands” was the name given to the Flanders Estate by its original owners in 1925 – a name befitting its solitary, wooded location in Hatton Fields. On the Register of Historic Places, the mansion is currently owned by the city of Carmel, CA. Unoccupied for a number of years, there is a mixed ambiance about the place. The history of its past grandeur and elegance is transposed against Nature’s tendency to overcome and take back. Is there a precious long-forgotten article behind the locked doors? Peering through the windows from outside, the forested grounds are reflected over the vacant interior, capturing the moody ambiance in a somewhat ghostly and dreamlike way... Outlands in a State of Vacancy.
