STATE OF VACANCY

“Outlands” was the name given to the Flanders Estate by its original owners in 1925 – a name befitting its solitary, wooded location in Hatton Fields. On the Register of Historic Places, the mansion is currently owned by the city of Carmel, CA. Unoccupied for a number of years, there is a mixed ambiance about the place. The history of its past grandeur and elegance is transposed against Nature’s tendency to overcome and take back. Peering through the windows from outside, the forested grounds were reflected over the vacant interior, capturing the moody ambiance in a somewhat ghostly and dreamlike way... Outlands in a State of Vacancy.
