Volume 2: "Redwood Forest Bathing"

June  2022

A recent road trip to Oregon presented the perfect opportunity to indulge in my favorite mindfulness practice - forest bathing. Originating in Japan in the 1980s, "Shinrin-yoku" is a way of clearing the mind by using all five senses to totally immerse yourself in the forest environment. This was easy to achieve while walking through the lush understory beneath the canopy of towering redwoods in the Pacific Northwest.

Lab studies published in the NIH National Library of Medicine found that even viewing simple images of nature reduces stress and provides health benefits. So take a few deep breaths as you soak in these images from my forest meditations.

Enveloped by cool, moist air...soft droplets falling from the branches above.

Breathing in the fresh fragrance of damp moss, ferns, and living trees.

Leaving refreshed in body, mind, and spirit.

Thanks to my husband Donn for this last image.
